In the fall of 2021 my dear friend Julie Read asked for some music at her art opening on Bainbridge Island. Julie Read is perhaps one of the main reasons we moved to Port Townsend—she is the best!
This led to the first gig that Matt Weiner & I ever did as a duo—it was a joy!!
Several seasons and several duo gigs later in December of 2022, Matt came to Port Townsend to help start my regular Tuesday series at the Bishop Hotel—we made some extra time to record a few tracks!
And here they are—Julie was kind enough to let us use an image from that Bainbridge art opening—her piece “Arrangement in Yellow”
And so in honor of her, we are proud to be able to present “Arrangements in Yellow”—six pieces, some of which I am sure we played that first evening.

The laid-back groove of the Brooks Prumo Orchestra hits the sweet spot. This is fine swing without any try-hard hype. The studio mix is balanced, and it hops and slides like music should (unlike some other contemporary jazz). "Out of Nowhere" is outstanding: inspired arrangement, knockout playing, genuine emotion. The vocal numbers get better with every listen, and "Blue Lester" has about it a certain sunburn-on-your-skin mint julep nighttime ease. jakespatz
