about

These are LIVE tracks from Eastside Stomp / Emerald City Solo Jam from January of 2019.
We are so excited to finally share them!
Eastside Stomp has been providing the Seattle area with a weekly live music dance since 2014, connecting so many musicians and dancers to one another. (Stay tuned for the continuation of this series in 2022!)
The band this night was a concept of Matthew Bergvinson's—he reached out to me with these players in mind and The Spirit Of Kansas City name and direction. We had all played together, but never in this configuration and thinking of these players (especially Ray), I thought it might be fun to add the second focus of some Chicago style and repertoire—thus the slightly cumbersome title. Ultimately this all was just a point of departure—I feel like The Spirit of Eastside Stomp was in the room and what you hear here is a band having a great time, playing music for a roomful of awesome, energetic dancers! There was an added energy in that this was the weekend of Emerald City Solo Jam and there were many more folks than usual doing solo dancing, and that can feel like an even more direct collaboration between the band and the dancer.
Kaleb & Matthew & Keith were prepared to record at the board (we weren’t planning on making an album when we were playing!) and I’m so glad that they did and so appreciative of the work they put into making this album a reality!
Thanks so much to Eastside Stomp and Syncopation Foundation crew for having us and to Ben White for instigating!
